A delicious and easy dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 3 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Turbinado sugar, for sprinkling

Method

Preparing the Filling

  1. In a large skillet, combine the diced apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the apples are softened and the liquid has evaporated.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of water. Stir into the apple mixture and cook for an additional minute, or until thickened.

Assembling and Baking

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into squares.
  3. Place a spoonful of apple filling on each square.
  4. Fold the pastry over the filling and crimp the edges to seal.
  5. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  6. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Serving Suggestions

Serve warm or cold with ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce.
