Grow Healthy Food Such As Fish and Vegetables Using Aquaponics
Many of use consider growing vegetables in our backyard a process that uses soil and an abundance of water. This is not the case with aquaponics. This type of agriculture combines aquaculture and hydroponics. This is a symbiotic system which uses the waste water of marine animals to provide nutrients to plants in a grow tank. The roots of the plants are set in a grow bed and are provided water and nutrients from a tank containing fish such as trout or tilapia. The plants cleanse the water water by using up the waste created by the aquatic life. This water is then sent back to the fish tank. This is a closed loop system ans wastes very little water. The fertilization needed for the plants is provided by the waste water created in the fish tank. Water will have to added because of evaporation, but this will much less when compared to a soil based agriculture system
Advantages of Aquaponics When Compared To Soil Based Agriculture
Aquaponics is a system which combines basic aquaculture with hydroponics in a symbiotic environment. This method uses the waste products from fish to supply nutrients for plants. These plants, such tomatoes or lettuce, are therefore grown hydroponically. The use of waste water created by the fish purifies the water thus making the environment they live in. An automatic recirculating system is used to drive this process.
How To Control The Humidity Level In A Greenhouse?
If you want your plants to grow well in a greenhouse, make sure the humidity level is in the desired range. Excessive humidity can kill the plants because of mold and mildew growth. It can cause fungal infection in the roots, stems, and leaves of the plants.
Carrot and Celery Fly Control
That little pest that really annoys me is the carrot fly: A creature that is a member of the psilidae family, also called ” Rust Flies “. Apart from eating carrots, they can also be found on: celery, parsnips and parsley. I seems me that they are out to get my crop, what ever I do.
How to Deal With Rats
Rats have been around with mankind from the beginning of time. We are told that nobody is further away from a rat than six feet, at any given time. I do not believe that is necessarily true, however there are a lot of rats around. Apparently there are 60 species of rats in the world. The smallest one is about four inches long and the biggest one is called a Bosavi woolly rat that weights in, at over three pounds, about the size of a cat.
Getting Rid of Cabbage Moth
You do everything possible to have healthy growth and ‘bang’ your plants get slammed by some critter or another. What do you do? As more and more of us are concerned about climate change from chemicals and the like, we turn to the old ways of control. This means, in general, natural control for all those bugs that help themselves to our crops.

Autumn Sown Onions:
The idea of sowing onion seeds in August is a very good one, because it is a known fact that seeds sown at this time of year are not affected by onion fly. However it is not always possible to do so because some land might be exposed to cold north or easterly winds which will prevent the seeds from taking off.
Know Your Onions:
The onion is perhaps the most respected crop in the vegetable patch as well as the highest priced in the market. Producing a fine crop of onions takes work and care, for there are many problems along the way like mildew and onion fly. However, I will lead you down the right path to avoid these troubles by growing your onions with the correct cultivation.
Summer Management For Potatoes
From the time that the plants show through the soil, the best thing that you can do for quick and healthy growth, is to use the hoe between the rows every time that the soil is dry enough. The reason for this is that the hoe will keep the weeds in check, and at the same time conserve water by forming a fine tilth.
April is, of course, the best month to plant potatoes, and the main crop should be in the ground from between the 1st of April and the middle of May. I always put mine in the ground on Good Friday.
Benefits of Having a Greenhouse
The benefits of having a greenhouse are many. It benefits both hobbyists and commercial growers. Plants thrive and produce under the weather protection and ideal growing conditions that these structures offer. Any plant enthusiast would enjoy working and being rewarded with beautiful healthy plants..
